Last Night Monique became the fifth African American woman to win an Oscar when she took home the prize in the category of Best Supporting Actress. Monique won the award for her untouchable performance in the film,
Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire. In her acceptance speech, Monique paid tribute to Hattie McDaniel, the first African American to ever win an Oscar. Monique stated,
“I want to thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all she had to so that I would not have to.”
